Going to try to install SnowOSXUniversal on my AMD Machine

OK so currently I have a dual boot machine (iDeneb 10.5.6, and Windows 7).  Well I am going to try to make a triple boot (iDeneb 10.5.6, Windows 7, and SnowOSX Universal).  The trick here is that I am using the older 3.5 version.  Which is INTEL ONLY...well... thats what they said about Snow leopard, and yet people are running it on their AMD machines.

So I am going to have to mess around with a few things to try to get this working.  I will post my success or failure on here once I am finished.  It is installing right now so I should be done pretty soon.

If this does NOT work then I am going to try the new 3.6 version which is supposed to support AMD CPUs.
And if this DOES work but is glitchy, etc. then I am going to install the newer version and try it out!

iDeneb 10.5.6 on AMD PC

Well I just finished installing iDeneb 10.5.6 on my AMD PC, and it runs like a charm!

Most people say that Hackintosh's are worthless and glitchy and they just don't work, well, I am here to tell you that what those people say are true, to some extent.  If you choose the wrong kexts (Basically a Mac version of a Windows driver) then it will NOT work correctly.  But if you choose the right kexts then you will be just fine!

I have everything working, Quartz Extreme, Dual Monitors, Photo Booth, iMovie '09, iLife '09, Final Cut Express, Spaces, Expose, etc.

My install took about 40 minutes, but it was well worth the wait!

Here is a list of my Specs and the kexts i used for my hardware:

Hard Drive - Formated as Mac OS Extended (Journaled) - No kext required.

CPU - AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+   -   MUST USE VOODOO KERNEL! OR IT WON'T WORK (Only applies to AMD CPUs)

Motherboard - MSI k9vgm-v   -   Used VIA Chipset kext

Video Card - PNY 8600GT - NvDarwin 512mb video kext

As I said before, everything works perfectly, the only downside is that since I don't have an Intel CPU, I can't update to 10.5.7, or 10.5.8, v.i.a Software updater.  I have to do it a different way.

I love Mac OSX and I recommend it to everybody!

New Computer Build 2010!!!

Hey guys
I wanted to let you guys know that I am going to be building a new custom pc.

Linux Fails With Netbooks

Now i'm pretty sure all of you have seen and heard about netbooks and if you haven't let me tell you what they are.
Netbooks are like mini laptops but they are limited in what you can do with them, as far as games and cpu intensive applications go, seeing as how Microsoft's Windows Vista is very memory intensive.

But people are seeming to really like them seeing as how they are selling like hotcakes, but that is not really the exact point I am trying to make
I'm sure you guys have heard about Linux, and if you haven't then go read about it, but it is a Mac and Windows alternative and it is a lot less memory intensive, which makes it a lot faster, it is also very secure.

Ok so lets refresh Linux is a lot less memory intensive, it is faster, and it is more secure now if you were smart you would probably be thinking didn't you say that netbooks are limited in what they do because of Vista's memory intensive ways?
Well if you were thinking that then you are a very smart person. Now you would think that Linux would jump in on this whole netbook sensation, but no they didn't and they still aren't.
But why? Why would Linux not take this big opportunity to become a bigger part of the operating system world.

Now granted Linux has become more and more popular over the past few years especially Ubuntu and Yellow Dog Linux, Now before you go out and download Yellow Dog Linux I should let you know it is for "Power PC's" only, but it has been specifically designed for the Playstation 3. Thats right you know Sony's PS3 your kids talk about? Yeah that one, so in a way the PS3 is all you need for your basic needs, it is a game console, a dvd player, a blu-ray player, and now a computer.

I know that Linux is on a few netbooks, but why just a few when they could have dominated the netbook industry?
I think Linux has failed as a community on this next big thing.
That being said I have nothing against Linux at all, I just think that they could have done a lot better on these netbooks.

Ubuntu 9.04 Review

Hey guys I'm sure if your an Ubuntu fan you have seen or heard about Ubuntu 9.04, and if not than let me tell you what Ubuntu is and some of the new features in Ubuntu 9.04.

OK so what is Ubuntu? Well Ubuntu is a Linux distro (or distribution) that is guaranteed to always be free (also known as the Ubuntu promise), so why use Ubuntu?
Well Ubuntu is fast, stable, free and is always fun to use.

Ok so why shouldn't you get a different linux distro like Fedora, or OpenSuse?
Well there really isn't that much of a reason and in my opinion you should try them all and find
the one you like best.

Now that doesn't mean that you have to install and then uninstall each release one at a time, because the cool thing about linux is that you can use what is called a "live" CD.
So what is a "live" CD? A live CD is a .ISO file you download and then burn to a cd or dvd using special CD/DVD burning software.

And once you burn that .ISO file on to a CD/DVD then you can use the operating system without installing it.
This is a very useful feature that has saved my butt various times with my Windows pcs.

Now for some new features in 9.04

(Gnome)
Ubuntu includes the latest Gnome desktop environment. (Gnome 2.26)

(Brasero)
Ubuntu 9.04 includes brasero version 2.26.0 which is an all-in-one cd burning utility.
(Brasero is now the default disc burning utility in Nautilus).

(Linux kernel 2.6.28)
Ubuntu 9.04 includes the 2.6.28-11.37 kernel.

These are just a few of the new features in Ubuntu 9.04.
Now how about startup speed? Well here are the startup times of Ubuntu 9.04 and Ubuntu 8.10.
(Note: These tests were done in VmWare Workstation 6.)

(Ubuntu 8.10)
Startup: 56 Seconds

(Ubuntu 9.04)
Startup: 48 Seconds

So as you can see they trimmed off about 8 seconds on the startup time.
(Note: These tests were done in VmWare Workstation 6, so expect faster startup times if you are installing it on just a normal pc.)

How To Run Ubuntu 9.04 From USB Stick

Ok so why would you want to have Linux on a USB Drive when you already have a Live CD???
Well first of all it has much faster read/write speeds and a MUCH FASTER startup time.
Here are the startup times:
USB=49 seconds
CD/DVD=1 minute 50 seconds
So thats a 1 minute and 1 second difference!!! Don't believe me??? Try it out yourself.
Plus it is always good to have a Linux Distro around to save your buut when you need it!!!
(It has saved mine plenty of times)

Ok so here is what you will need:
The Ubuntu 9.04 live cd. (If you have Vmware you can boot from the .ISO file)
A Usb Drive at least 1gb.
And of course your computer.

Ok so to get started startup from the Live CD or .ISO image. To do this you may have to go into your BIOS and select the cd/dvd drive to be the first boot device.

Now choose your language. And choose try Ubuntu without any change to your computer.
Once you are at the desktop at the top of the screen click "system"-"administration"-"create usb startup disk".

Then choose your iso image or your cd. and then choose the USB drive you would like to put Ubuntu on.

Now click "Make Startup Disk" Now wait for it to complete (It shouldn't take more than about 10 minutes).

My Thoughts on Google's New OS

OK so just in case you haven't heard Google has announced that they will be releasing a new operating system based on the Linux kernel and it will be named "Chrome".

Google's new operating system shares the same name as their Internet browser so things might get a little confusing when we start hearing more about Chrome.

So how will Google's new operating system affect the computer business?

Well everyone knows who Google is I mean how many people have Google as their homepage?

Well lets put it this way so many people set their homepage to google that we would save energy if google changed their web page's color to black!

So a lot of people are bound to get Google's new operating system seeing as how Google is so popular. Not to mention it will be cheaper for them!

Google's new operating system will be Open Source which means the code or at least some of it will be made freely available seeing as how most Linux Distros are Open Source this is no big deal.

Now I think since Google is so big that their Operating system (if it succeeds) will change the whole computer business forever.

And I think it will give a little scare to Apple and Microsoft.

So why will it change the computer business forever? Well first it will give Linux a lot of popularity and it will put a big business out there to represent Linux.

Then maybe more people will realize that Linux is safe, fun, and reliable. and maybe programmers will start to code more things "for Linux" instead of "with Linux".

And maybe they will release more games for Linux too.

I really do think that this could change the whole computer industry.

But keep in mind that Google Chrome will not be released for about another year or so and in the computer business a year is a long time. And a lot can happen in a year.

So who knows This all might just fall through but i doubt that it will seeing as how Google is basically calling it an extension of their browser, and so far their browser has been successful.

iPod Classic Review

Introduction

Hey guys a few days ago, I decided to go out and buy myself an iPod Classic 30GB 5th generation.

I bought this item used off of Craigslist, now even though I bought this item used it was in GREAT CONDITION. So right when I got home I went straight to me computer to sync up some songs to this iPod.

When I got the iPod it did not come with headphones, but i didn't need them anyway because I already had my Red JVC Gummies.

Now lets get this straight, I bought this item because I wanted something to distract me until I get my 32GB iPod Touch 3rd Generation.

So this will not be my "main" iPod, so I think I am going to re-sell this iPod later on.

Battery Time

This iPod's battery life is pretty good! I woke up and a few hours later (I would say around 2:00pm) i grabbed the iPod, put it in my pocket, put my headphones in, and started jamming!

The iPod lasted until about 8:30pm (Note that this was continuous audio playback). So yes this iPod lasted a pretty long time!

This iPod is a 5th Generation, and from what I hear the new Generations have brought even more battery life into this thing! So that is very good, and everyone knows that Apple is always raising the bar and setting new standards when it comes to Mp3 players.

Video

Well when the iPod Video comes to mind everyone immediately thinks videos/movies.

And this thing is definitely capable of both! And although the video quality definitely depends on the video you have downloaded (Whether from iTunes, Rhapsody, LimeWire, FrostWire, or wherever) the quality is not the best but it is GREAT for such a small device.

This iPod Video 30GB is said to hold up to 75 hours of video.

Music

This thing is made for audio, as is all other iPod models, there isn't much to say about the audio playback on this device. All I can say is, the volume can go really loud, and I love that because I almost always listen to my iPod on a really high volume setting. When scrolling through songs, artists, playlists, etc, if you scroll fast enough it will start to scroll by alphabetical letters.

This iPod can hold up to 7,500 songs, depending on the size (the size depends on the quality) of the audio files.

I am sorry if that is not enough info about the audio playback on this iPod but really what is there to say? It is an iPod and iPod's are made for the playback of audio...so there you go.

Photos

The photos on this thing look absolutely gorgeous!

I don't have very many photos on this thing because I am planning on putting them on my iTouch 32GB 3rd Gen, but from the photos that I do have on here they look awesome!

The iPod can hold up to 25,000 photos (again depending on the size of the photos).

Extras

The extras included on this ipod are Clock, Games, Contacts, Calendar, Notes, Stopwatch, and Screen Lock.

We will go down the list...

Clock

Very useful (well duh).

You can have several different clocks and you can customize the with your Country, State, Region, whatever.

Games

The games on this are relatively fun (although definitely not as fun as the iPod Touch).

The games I currently have on the iPod are Brick, Music Quiz, Parachute, and Solitaire.

My personal favorite is Brick, it is simple but yet it is so fun and addictive.

Contacts

I do not use this at all but I guess it could be useful for other people.

Calendar

I use this a lot to save things such as birthdays, meetings, etc.

This calendar app thing is very useful and I recommend anyone to use it.

Notes

This is a pretty useful tool.

Just save notes to yourself about things.

Stopwatch

This is a VERY useful tool.

I have a brand new phone and even it doesn't have a stopwatch!

This is useful when you are jogging, working out, or if you are just needing to time something.

Lock Screen

Set a lock for your iPod.

Pretty useful little security tool.
